President to see small miracles in Bangladesh

Stephen Poxon travels to Bangladesh next week to visit an MRDF partner that provides vital support for street children.

You can follow the President's trip, via his blog, as he spends five days in Dhaka seeing for himself how local organisation Chinnamul Shishu Kishore Sangstha (CSKS) offers hope to some of the country's children by giving them a place to sleep, food and medical care.

Two children learn tailoring skills at the CSKS centre

CSKS is one of only two organisations that work with street children in Dhaka – there are over one million children living on the city's streets. With MRDF support, CSKS runs six rehabilitation centres and ‘schools under the sky', where children can learn literacy and numeracy skills. It also provides training in skills, such as candle-making and tailoring, that prepare the children for independent living when they leave the centres.

CSKS's work is particularly critical because it supports children who may have been involved with the sex trade and substance abuse – many of whom have to live with the stigma of these associations. The President will meet children whose lives have been transformed because of the generosity of MRDF supporters.

Reverend Stephen Poxon, President of the Methodist Conference, will be visiting CSKS from 22-27 October. You can follow his trip via his blog as he sees small miracles in action.
