Two children learn tailoring skills at the CSKS centre |
|
CSKS is one of only two organisations that work with street children in Dhaka – there are over one million children living on the city's streets. With MRDF support, CSKS runs six rehabilitation centres and ‘schools under the sky', where children can learn literacy and numeracy skills. It also provides training in skills, such as candle-making and tailoring, that prepare the children for independent living when they leave the centres. CSKS's work is particularly critical because it supports children who may have been involved with the sex trade and substance abuse – many of whom have to live with the stigma of these associations. The President will meet children whose lives have been transformed because of the generosity of MRDF supporters. Reverend Stephen Poxon, President of the Methodist Conference, will be visiting CSKS from 22-27 October. You can follow his trip via his blog as he sees small miracles in action. |
