A documentary about an MRDF partner's work with street children was featured on Sport Relief on 19 March 2010. The film focuses on our partner's dynamic work with vulnerable children in Bangladesh.
The local organisation, which has been an MRDF partner since 2000, provides emergency care and shelter to some of the 337,000 street children in Dhaka. In the last five years, over 40,000 have accessed its services, which includes its schools under the sky – open-air classrooms in bus shelters or public squares where children can learn literacy and numeracy skills.
Some of the children also featured in a Sainsbury's advert with Jamie Oliver in the weeks leading up to Sport Relief.
Audrey Skervin, MRDF's Media Officer, said: ‘The project staff work extremely hard to protect the most vulnerable children in society. They not only offer children a safe place to sleep, but also educational and vocational opportunities which significantly increase their job prospects. We are delighted that they have the opportunity to show-case their exceptional and transformative work to an international audience.'
